What is QUEST?

Quest is a Symposium dedicated to sharing the scholarly and creative pursuits of faculty, staff and student of the State University of New York at Oswego. It is sponsored by the Scholarly and Creative Activities Committee, The Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching, The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, and the Office of the Provost. Wednesday April 19th has been reserved for QUEST. The standard presentation is 12 minutes, with 3 minutes for questions. The presentation should be prepared for the general audience. Other forms of presentations, such as panels, plays, readings, recitals, and symposia will be accepted to the extent facilities and scheduling permits.

When will QUEST be held?

th from 9am until 5pm. This time is reserved for QUEST and other activities should not be scheduled during this time.

Who can present at QUEST?

The entire campus community (students, faculty, and staff) may participate in QUEST. Abstracts should be submitted at the beginning of the spring semester, before Monday February 13th. The Scholarly and Creative Activities Committee (SCAC) will review the abstracts and the presenters will be notified by the end of February. Students must have a faculty sponsor to work with them on their presentation.

Will there be a keynote speaker to celebrate QUEST?

Yes, there will be a keynote speaker and different events planned for the day.

Are there student awards for QUEST?

*Professor John Daly has initiated the Helen Bohmer Daly Quest Award for Undergraduate Student Scientific Research. The award, which will be announced at Quest, will include a $1,000 stipend.

The award is to be given to an undergraduate student who is presenting his or her original research at Quest, and whose research involves the use of the scientific method. Eligible research might include controlled laboratory studies, data collection, mathematical modeling, demographic research, or other quantitative research involving controlled experimental methods. As a rule, students presenting qualitative or critical research are not eligible.

* The Sigma Xi and ORSP (Office of Research & Sponsored Programs) Scientific Research Award, in the amount of $100, shall be given annually to the two best research projects presented at QUEST by students.
